Fort Lauderdale Airport Closed Due to Flooding

Thunderstorms Continue to Pummel South Florida

Reopening Scheduled for Friday at 9 am

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) has been forced to close due to ongoing flooding in the vicinity, and will remain closed until Friday at 9 am, according to the airport's website. Thunderstorms have dumped up to two feet of rain in Fort Lauderdale and other parts of southeastern Florida, causing widespread flooding and disruptions.

The airport suspended services on Wednesday as water rushed over the tarmac, grounding flights and stranding passengers. Heavy rains have also closed major roads, stranded vehicles, and forced delays and cancellations at other airports in the region.

South Florida has been under siege by the relentless storm, which has dumped an astonishing 25 inches of rain in some coastal areas. The flooding has inundated homes, businesses, and roads, causing extensive damage and displacing residents.
